Start with context.
The answer should fit the person, the organization, and the moment.

How I help

Engagements shaped around the real problem.

The goal is not a standard answer. It is to understand you and your organization well enough to expose the hidden constraint, generate useful options, and support movement.

01

Executive advisory & thought partnership

Focused or ongoing partnership for accomplished leaders who have hit a barrier they cannot fully see or solve from inside the situation.

  • Complex decisions and hidden barriers
  • Trust, delegation, and leadership patterns
  • Focused diagnostics or ongoing support
02

Organizational sensemaking & strategy

Deep investigation and tailored guidance for organizations at a crossroads, entering a new chapter, or trying to weather a consequential moment.

  • Five-year direction and strategic plans
  • Growth, transition, and storm navigation
03

Scenario planning & strategic facilitation

A comprehensive process that brings varied perspectives together to explore uncertainty and move a consequential body of work forward.

  • Diverse-perspective convenings
  • Plausible futures and strategic principles
  • Facilitation through plan development
Flexible by design

Engagements can range from a one-month investigation of a defined challenge to years of ongoing thought partnership or on-call executive support.

Scenario planning

Meet uncertainty with more than one answer.

A comprehensive scenario-planning process brings together participants with different views of the organization. Together, they widen the field of vision, make change discussable, and build direction that is useful across several plausible futures.

Ryan’s approach draws on the research-based model developed by Thomas J. Chermack, professor at Colorado State University and founder and director of its Scenario Planning Institute. About the methodology ↗

01

Investigate

Bring the whole system into view

Gather people who see the organization differently, study the context, and surface the forces and uncertainties shaping the road ahead.

02

Generate

Make uncertainty discussable

Build a set of plausible scenarios that expands the team’s field of vision, tests assumptions, and reveals choices that a single forecast would miss.

03

Move

Turn insight into strategic direction

Translate what the scenarios reveal into durable principles, strategic options, and—when useful—a complete plan for the next chapter.

The ideal team is willing to engage with uncertainty, curious about what it may reveal, and ready to navigate change rather than wait for certainty.

What the work can unlock

When the hidden pattern becomes visible, new choices become possible.

Representative engagements are anonymized to protect client confidentiality.

01

Inherited leadership

From carrying the whole business to creating room for others to lead

The patternA family-business successor felt responsible for staying close to every decision—a pattern rooted in the pressure to honor the legacy they had inherited.

The movementMaking that pressure visible helped the leader understand the micromanagement beneath it and begin building a healthier path toward trust, delegation, and shared leadership.

02

Strategic growth

From urgent wins to a longer-term strategy aligned with values

The patternA leader’s focus on small, immediate wins kept momentum high but made it difficult to invest in the customers and opportunities that best fit the organization’s ambitions.

The movementA values-connected strategy expanded the time horizon, clarified the right customer base, and created a more intentional route to sustainable growth.

03

Trust & delegation

From justified caution to a structure that could support growth

The patternAfter damaging experiences with former partners, a CEO’s understandable mistrust made it difficult to share authority—even when the business needed others to lead.

The movementA gradual-release approach honored what had happened while creating practical ways to rebuild trust, delegate responsibly, and let the organization grow.

04

Scenario planning

From uncertainty to a five-year direction—and readiness for what followed

The patternOrganizations in nonprofit and corporate settings needed to make consequential choices without pretending the future was predictable.

The movementScenario work helped one nonprofit establish the foundation for a five-year growth strategy and helped a company surface considerations that later informed its path toward a merger.
